The Beginning
This was my final project for completing the Google UX Design Professional
Certificate Course.
The goal was 'To design a user experience for social good'.
After cleaning out my house, I was left with a bunch of stuff that was not valuable enough to sell, but too valuable to just donate. Garage/yard sale items; however, not enough for a full yard sale, nor did I have time to implement one.
It occurred to me that an online yard sale would be perfect. This could be set up for someone to search by area and date, or by specific product or product type. Hosting could be done to sell items with a lot fewer restrictions and requirements than other personal sales platforms.

Rough Draft
After interviewing several people in a few locations, I came up
with a rough idea and drew up some wireframes and general program flow.
The driving force behind my decisions is organization and efficiency. I wanted this to be easy to use and intuitive.
For this project, a mobile design first approach was used since my primary users would access the application from their phones.

Unification
I tend to come up with graphics early in my design process and save them as a sticker sheet.
This helps promote uniformity and continuity in my designs.
Yard Sale App
I designed the app and all the pages I believed were needed. This being a UX project,
no programming was required at this stage.
Most of the work was completed with image editors and Figma.

Samples
Many pages were designed along with sample data. I showed screenshots to various people
in different demographics to get some insight and make adjustments.
Function
One of the final steps in the UX design process is to make a functional prototype for people to test.
Figma is a great tool for demonstrating the flow between pages.
The most important thing I learned from this project is perspective. The elements I felt to be most important and the way I wanted to implement them was not always what the users wanted. Talking to many different users, several times during the design process, is critical to producing a successful product.
As a designer, I serve the users.
